This is One Horny Town

The marina is located fairly proximate to a busy road. It can be noisy at times because of all the honking. The locals use the horn as a form of communication. Mostly, they honk to say hello. Because the island has a relatively small population of about a hundred thousand, everyone seems to know each other – which means there are a lot of hellos.

They also honk to tell a vehicle it’s okay to pull out in front of them, or enter a round about, or exit a round about, or they are going to pass. All of these generate a ‘thank you honk’.

Buses honk to try to get you to jump on for a ride. Anytime a bus approaches a potential rider, they honk. Because there are usually a good number of people walking or standing by the side of the road, the buses generate a lot of honks.

In the states, many car and truck owners modify their vehicles to gain performance. This usually results in the vehicle having a loud exhaust. Here in Grenada, they modify their horns. Almost all the taxi’s and buses (vans) have a modified sound.
